4-Player Push META

Introduction

In this article we will talk about the 4-Player Push most effective tactic available (META) to place high on the Leaderboards. It’s possible to clear the current Greater Rift cap of 150 in just a few minutes when fully optimized. Generally, these fast clear times require extreme dedication to fishing in order to get Rank 1. Check our Greater Rift Post for more in-depth mechanics and the current top clears with all the individual character compositions for every Season on our rankings page.

General Strategy

In an effective 4-Player group META, every party member has a defined role with different tasks. Here is an overview of the 4 roles usually played and tasks each role is best at:

PositionBuilds  Task
Trash KillerSpirit Barrage WD, LoD Grim Scythe Necromancer,
Twister Wiz
This position usually requires a build with good Area of Effect (AoE) damage like Bone Spear, Spirit Barrage or Energy Twister and huge temporary buffs like Arcane Attunement, Spellsteal, Assimilation etc. The main task is executing the damage rotation properly in order to kill trash monsters (and maybe even Elites) to progress through the Rift.
Rift Guardian KillerFirebird Wizard, Heaven's Fury Sader, Corpse Spider WD, Inna Mystic Ally MonkThe RGK requires a build that revolves around high single-target damage often combined with fast attack speed skills such as Frenzy to stack Bane of the Stricken. The main task is to finish the Greater Rift by killing the Rift Guardian. Furthermore, most builds in this category can also help with pulling during the Rift and can finish off individual Elites or high progression monsters.
Support#1zBarb, zNec, zDH, zMonkThe main Support role requires good pull abilities, good overall damage & toughness boost. The main task here is to pull monsters tightly together (Area Damage value) for the Trash Killer, drag Elite packs along, scout the map and keep up damage & toughness buffs.
Support#2zMonk, zNec, zDHThe second Support usually provides even more toughness and damage buffs to the group. The main task here is simple: Keep up all buffs while sticking close to the damage dealer. Sometimes the second Support also helps scout the map and engage enemies.

The overall power level during Season 26 is not that high. Top clears need to focus on Area Damage again to clear GR150. But many builds and setups can still clear the highest difficulty in the game with ease, especially in coordinated groups at higher Paragon Levels.

The Current META (2.7.3) - Trash Killer

Concept
During Season 26 there are 3 strong Trash Killer Builds that will compete for the top leaderboards spots:

  1. Legacy of Dreams Grim Scythe Necromancer
  2. Embodiment of the Marauder Sentry Demon Hunter
  3. Mundunugu's Regalia Spirit Barrage Witch Doctor

The Grim Scythe Necromancer has the highest potential DPS at high Paragon Level and the benefits of Frailty which makes Conduit Pylons extremely powerful. It can destroy Trash that is pulled and controlled by the zBarb with just one swing. Even Elites can die instantly in very dense Pixelpulls. On top of that, the Necromancer has good toughness, which makes it relatively easy to survive without a zMonk and provides all 3 curses. The Necromancer curses the monsters to gain the Spreading Malediction damage buff. Once every monster is grouped up (preferably on top of Elites) the Necromancer refreshes all his Poison skills for Nayr's Black Death. He then attacks with Grim Scythe on the edge of the pull to create an Oculus Ring. After moving into the damage circle, he swings into the center of the pull, together with his Simulacrum Blood and Bone to deal devastating damage. Ideally this is timed with the Convention of Elements Poison rotation for an insane burst.

Marauder
Embodiment of the Marauder Demon Hunter
Mundunugu
Mundunugu's Regalia Witch Doctor

The Embodiment of the Marauder Sentry Demon Hunter is very good at dealing constant damage with Cluster Arrow.

With an extremely well executed Pixelpull by the zBarb, the Mundunugu's Regalia Spirit Barrage Witch Doctor at decent Paragon Levels will be able to one-shot Elites even on Greater Rift 150!

All 3 Trash Killers are supported by a zBarb pulling Elites and grouping monsters together so that the Allies can hit many targets at once. On top of that, the Barb provides massive toughness buffs with Ignore Pain Mob Rule and War Cry. Additional offensive and defensive buffs are provided by the zDH.

The Current META (2.7.3) - Rift Guardian Killer

Concept
During Season 26 groups will add a dedicated Rift Guardian Killer again to decimate single targets.
The Spirit of Arachyr Corpse Spiders Witch Doctor deals the highest single target damage but is very inconsistent with multiple targets around, while the  Inna's Mantra Mystic Ally Earth Ally Monk can deal insane damage with its rocks!

Gameplay Monk
The damage rotation on the boss is very simple: you hold down the generator, use Cyclone Strike every 5 seconds and use all the other skills on cooldown. When your Physical Convention of Elements comes up your zBarb should stun the boss to activate Relentless Assault.
In the Rift you mostly do nothing because activating Mystic Ally will make all the mobs CC-immune. You can sometimes do some damage to elites when nothing else is left in the pull and you're about to move forward.

Gameplay Witch Doctor
In the Rift your job is mostly to survive and give the Big Bad Voodoo buff to your Trash Killer. During the boss fight try to dodge to keep Squirt's Necklace and make sure to keep Spirit Walk for your Physical Convention of Elements cycle.

The Current META (2.7.3) - Supports

Concept
The Trash- and Rift Guardian Killer are supported by a zBarb pulling Elites and grouping monsters together so that the Allies can hit many targets at once. On top of that, the Barb provides massive toughness buffs with Ignore Pain Mob Rule and War Cry.
Additional offensive and defensive buffs are provided by the zDH.

Gameplay zBarb
Play around the Trash Killer's Convention of Elements rotation, aggro and pull monsters with Ancient Spear Rage Flip and pixelpull enemeis with Ground Stomp Wrenching Smash.

Gameplay zDH
During DPS windows, make sure you apply all your buffs/debuffs properly (Multishot every 3 seconds, spread out Guardian Turret and spam Entangling Shot or Strafe). Try to help out the group in other ways, e.g. breaking walls with Bottomless Potion of Kulle-Aid, taking Wormholes that might spawn in dangerous places, etc. Especially on large pulls, make sure you re-apply Entangling Shot often and early enough (either don't let it time out by continuously attacking while circling around the pull or come back early enough to stack it on all enemies again after going very far).

Conclusion

Overall, the current Season Theme has a no impact on the group Push META. Almost all builds will feel quite a lot weaker in comparison to Season 25 without the Soul Shards and GR 150 won't be a cakewalk in the early Season days and present a bit of a challenge.
Enjoy Season 26 and good luck on your Leaderboard rank, May RNGesus be with you!
