4-Player Push META

Introduction

In this article we will talk about the 4-Player Push most effective tactic available (META) to place high on the Leaderboards. It’s possible to clear the current Greater Rift cap of 150 in just a few minutes when fully optimized. Generally, these fast clear times require extreme dedication to fishing in order to get Rank 1. Check our Greater Rift Post for more in-depth mechanics and the current top clears with all the individual character compositions for every Season on our rankings page.

General Strategy

In an effective 4-Player group META, every party member has a defined role with different tasks. Here is an overview of the 4 roles usually played and tasks each role is best at:

PositionBuilds  Task
Trash KillerSpirit Barrage WD, LoD Grim Scythe Necromancer,
Twister Wiz
This position usually requires a build with good Area of Effect (AoE) damage like Bone Spear, Spirit Barrage or Energy Twister and huge temporary buffs like Arcane Attunement, Spellsteal, Assimilation etc. The main task is executing the damage rotation properly in order to kill trash monsters (and maybe even Elites) to progress through the Rift.
Rift Guardian KillerFirebird Wizard, Heaven's Fury Sader, Corpse Spider WD, Inna Mystic Ally MonkThe RGK requires a build that revolves around high single-target damage often combined with fast attack speed skills such as Frenzy to stack Bane of the Stricken. The main task is to finish the Greater Rift by killing the Rift Guardian. Furthermore, most builds in this category can also help with pulling during the Rift and can finish off individual Elites or high progression monsters.
Support#1zBarb, zNec, zDH, zMonkThe main Support role requires good pull abilities, good overall damage & toughness boost. The main task here is to pull monsters tightly together (Area Damage value) for the Trash Killer, drag Elite packs along, scout the map and keep up damage & toughness buffs.
Support#2zMonk, zNec, zDHThe second Support usually provides even more toughness and damage buffs to the group. The main task here is simple: Keep up all buffs while sticking close to the damage dealer. Sometimes the second Support also helps scout the map and engage enemies.

With the introduction of Soul Shards items in Season 25 are way above the power level of previous season themes, allowing many of builds and setups to clear the highest difficulty in the game, Greater Rift Level 150, with ease especially in coordinated groups. The power level is so high that top clears don't even need Area Damage focused builds anymore and just focus on speed farming GR150.

The Current META (2.7.1) - Mystic Ally Inna Monk

Concept
The Inna's Mantra Mystic Ally Monk combines Dregs of Lies for the tremendous bonus damage to pets with Sliver of Terror for the massive damage buff from abilities on cooldown. The build is so fast and so powerful that it is best to run 2 of these in the same party to cover a bigger area of effect and deal the most damage possible. The Fire Ally explosion can shred trough Elites and Rifts Guardians alike.
The Monks are supported by a zBarb pulling Elites and grouping monsters together so that the Allies can hit many targets at once. On top of that, the Barb provides massive toughness buffs with Ignore Pain Mob Rule and War Cry.
Additional offensive and defensive buffs are provided by the zDH.

Setups
Normally the bigger monk should run Zei's Stone of Vengeance and the smaller one should use Bane of the Stricken. At around 4,000 Paragon (when you can kill the Rift Guardian in two rotations) you can switch to double Zei.

At very high Paragon (6,000+), you can drop Convention of Elements, Endless Walk and Flying Dragon and play Bastions of Will, Squirt's Necklace and Messerschmidt's Reaver in their place.

Alternative META - Trash Killer + Monk RGK

Concept
While the Inna Mystic Ally Monk is the strongest build in Season 25 by far, it often struggles with lags and bad pet AI in high monster density situations. Many group add a dedicated Trash Killer to decimate huge monster pulls for that reason.
The Armor of Akkhan Bombardment Crusader deals the highest damage, while the  Mundunugu's Regalia Spirit Barrage Witch Doctor can deal insane damage in a small area. A Legacy of Dreams Grim Scythe Necromancer is another decent choice that also adds Frailty to the group.
We add a zBarb and a zDH setup for a massive damage increase and a Mystic Ally Monk to kill Elites and the Rift Guardian!

Gameplay Crusader-META
The zBarb pulls as many monsters as possible together while providing damage and toughness buffs. More offensive and defensive buffs are provided by the zDH.
The Crusader follows a 16s rotation tied to Convention of Elements. At the start of Lightning use Iron Skin and walk into as many mobs as possible and stand completely still so that they can hit you. Hold down Punish for the next 3 seconds. When the CoE buff is at 8 o'clock, use Bombardment and activate Laws of Valor. After that you don't have to worry about stacks. Activate your Steed Charge for the damage bonus and move into Oculus Ring when it spawns.
If you do this right, fully buffed barrels will start falling exactly at the start of Physical and at that moment the zBarb needs to use Ground Stomp to pixel mobs together and stun them for Remnant of Pain.
To maximize your damage, sync up your Belt of the Trove and Convention of Elements. For that you need to drink a potion when your current element is 1s away from running out (buff at 9 o'clock). Ask your monk to stop spamming shields, so that you can take damage and use a potion. Keep in mind that if you have no enemies around Belt of the Trove will not fire, it will most likely desync and you'll have to do it again. The same will happen if you drink the potion at the wrong moment, so try to avoid panic potions. Also only enter next floor at the same time (1s before the element ends), or you will have to do the potion sync again.

More Alternatives

While Inna Monk is the most powerful class to play this season there are alternatives that can really shine with good group combinations. Here is an overview of possible strong contenders:

Conclusion

Overall, the current Season Theme has a very big impact on the group META. Soul Shards are insanely powerful and can make GR150 look like a joke for many builds, especially in a coordinated group. Enjoy Season 25 and good luck on your Leaderboard rank, May RNGesus be with you!
