Welcome to the LoD Wave of Light (WoL) guide! This setup is a stronger but harder to gear version of the Sunwuko WoL build. With nearly limitless mobility provided by Dashing Strike in conjunction with In-Geom and the huge AoE coverage of Wave of Light Explosive Light, this build can clear Nephalem Rifts like noone else.

LoD WoL has similar damage compared to its Sunwuko variant but does not rely on Vengeful Wind and Sweeping Wind stacks, making it a lot more pleasant to play. Legacy of Dreams also allows for more gearing flexibility, enabling the build to take advantage of the incredible interactions between Rabid Strike and Bindings of the Lesser Gods in Greater Rift push.

In Season 23, the Follower update allowed LoD WoL to include Cain's Destiny and Sage's Journey in its setup, very beneficial considering the strength of this build for Keyfarming. Indeed you don't need to choose between convenience and maximum Greater Rift Keystones per hour anymore: LoD Wave of Light can do it all!

Season 24 and its Inna's Mantra rework incidentally buffed this build by granting The Crudest Boots a damage multiplier that applies to the clones cast by Rabid Strike. On top of it Rabid Strike itself got a 450% damage multiplier making LoD WoL one of the strongest builds in the game.

This build is an Area Damage (AD) build, since Wave of Light, and most importantly Rabid Strike Clones, can proc it. This build develops a very active playstyle with intriguing interactions between Rabid Strike and Bindings of the Lesser Gods (see Mechanics). Core Setup

Core Item Build


  • Incense Torch of the Grand Temple cuts the cost of Wave of Light in half and gives it 550% increased damage.
  • Kyoshiro's Blade increases Wave of Light damage by 150%. This bonus is increased to 250% when hitting three or less enemies.
  • Rabid Strike mimics every Wave of Light cast with 450% increased damage.
  • Tzo Krin's Gaze gives up to 150% Wave of Light damage, and allows us to cast Wave of Light where our mouse cursor is.
  • Pinto's Pride makes Wave of Light slows enemies by 80% and increases its damage by 150%.
  • The Crudest Boots double the effect of our Mystic Ally Air Ally.
  • Cindercoat a really fantastic item for this build, it fits right in with its Resource Cost Reduction and 20% Fire damage boost.
  • Blackthorne's Jousting Mail are the only useful pants providing 20% Fire Damage.

Season 26 Echoing Nightmares

Echoing Nightmares are a new rewarding endgame activity set within the memories of fallen Nephalem. You must first acquire a Petrified Scream from a Greater Rift Guardian, and then cube it to enter. Once inside you'll be challenged with an endless wave of enemies until you are either overwhelmed or killed. Your goal here is to reach Wave 125 for the highest possible Whisper of Atonement with extra XP rewards added for going higher. This build is great for this game mode. Typically we utilize a Greater Rift speed build with a few tweaks.


  • Swap St. Archew's Gage for Stone Gauntlets to get more toughness.
  • Use Serenity Ascension and Near Death Experience instead of Mantra of Healing and Chant of Resonance to avoid getting oneshot by meteors.
  • Change Cyclone Strike rune to Eye of the Storm since monsters cannot be pulled.


  1. Reach Wave 100 and click Speed Pylon to boost your mobility and dodge Green Meteors.
  2. When you are more than 40% overwhelmed click Power Pylon.
  3. When you are more than 60% overwhelmed click Channeling Pylon and Conduit Pylon.
  4. After all Pylons expire, run away from monsters and dodge everything to squeeze out an extra 3-5 tiers.

Keep up Epiphany at all times but don't recast it until it's almost expired. Spam Wave of Light to kill everything and at later waves also add Cyclone Strike every 5 seconds to apply Bindings of the Lesser Gods debuff. Use Mystic Ally when your spirit gets low and use Serenity or Dashing Strike when meteors come falling down.

Global Stat Priorities

Our offensive priorities are: Fire Damage > Critical Hit Chance > Critical Hit Damage > Area Damage, along with as much Wave of Light damage as possible. We need at least 55% Cooldown Reduction to keep Epiphany up at all times otherwise our quality of life and survivability will suffer.

Assembling the Build

1. Do the Challenge Rift for the materials to cube Legendary Powers. You can complete this once a week for additional resources and we always update the guide for you!

2. This is a Legacy of Dreams build whose success is heavily dependent on this gem's rank. The first order of business is to equip a Legendary or Set item in every slot to take advantage of its power. Make sure to not have any Set Bonuses equipped or the gem will be nullified and you will deal no damage! Farm speed Greater Rifts (in under 5 minute clears) to find the items and get this gem as high as possible. Above Rank 25 ancient pieces of gear will give you even greater power.

3. Gamble from Kadala in this order:

4. Craft using Recipe 3 in Kanai's Cube in this order:

  1. Daibos to get Incense Torch of the Grand Temple
  2. Fist Weapons to get Kyoshiro's Blade
  3. Create a level 1 Demon Hunter and upgrade Swords to get In-Geom
  4. Rings to get Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac, Convention of Elements, Unity and Stone of Jordan
  5. Anything from the Gamble list in Step 3 that you haven't already acquired.

5. Do Bounties to acquire several important items for this build:

  • Act 1: Pauldrons of the Skeleton King and Ring of Royal Grandeur
  • Act 2: Gloves of Worship (for your follower)
  • Act 3: Avarice Band and Pride's Fall
  • Act 4: can drop Bounty items from any Act
  • Bounty Turn In: Recipes for Sage's Journey and Cain's Destiny (for your follower)

6. At this point you can somewhat comfortably farm Nephalem or Speed Greater Rifts where you can find all the remaining items you need for different variants of the build. Spend your materials getting items with better rolls and/or ancient quality.

  • Legacy of Dreams is what this entire build is based around and it what gives us most of our damage and toughness. You cannot have any set bonuses equipped for this gem to work.
  • Bane of the Trapped provides 60% increased damage to slowed enemies. Pinto's Pride applies the slow before the damage is calculated so we can take advantage of this gem.
  • Enforcer provides 60% damage for the Rabid Strike clone, which is responsible for 98% of your total damage.
  • Zei's Stone of Vengeance provides up to 80% increased damage based on how far away we are from enemies (50 yards is the maximum which is about half a screen away).
  • Boon of the Hoarder makes monsters spray gold everywhere for our Goldwrap and 30% increased movement speed for T16 content.
  • Bane of the Stricken gives up to 2.3% increased damage on successive attack against the same target. We'll need this gem if we want to solo push to kill the Rift Guardian.


  • Wave of Light Explosive Light is our damage dealer that blows up the entire screen with a fiery bell. This skill is cast at our enemies when we wear Tzo Krin's Gaze so we can kill enemies across the screen.
  • Mystic Ally Air Ally is utilized to grant us more spirit when we need it.
  • Epiphany Desert Shroud gives 50% damage reduction and allows us to teleport to monsters with our melee attacks.
  • Cyclone Strike Implosion gathers up monsters in solo pushing and activates our Lefebvre's Soliloquy and Bindings of the Lesser Gods.
  • Mantra of Salvation Agility gives 20% all resistance and 35% dodge.
  • Blinding Flash Faith in the Light gives 29% additive damage and procs The Laws of Seph.


  • Beacon of Ytar provides us with 20% Cooldown Reduction to keep Epiphany up at all times.
  • Seize the Initiative gives 30% Attack Speed when hitting enemies above 75% HP.
  • The Guardian's Path grants us 35% Dodge Chance.
  • Near Death Experience allows us to cheat death.
  • Harmony boosts our resistances to give us extra toughness.

Patch 2.7.0 revamped the follower system giving all 3 hirelings new powers and the emanate system. The first thing you should do is read our complete follower guide and remember the key takeaways:

  1. The emanation system allows followers to share certain legendary and set powers with you. The most important ones are: The Flavor of Time, Nemesis Bracers, Avarice Band, Sage’s Journey and Cain’s Destiny. Click the guide above for the full list.
  2. Follower’s powers are based on their main stat (maxed at 25,000, but they have a 2.5x multiplier so you only need 10,000). This means we stack Intelligence on the Enchantress, Dexterity on the Scoundrel and Strength on the Templar.
  3. Followers share 20% of their Experience, Magic and Gold Find stats with you.
  4. Legendary gems do not work on followers, except Esoteric Alteration and Mutilation Guard.
  5. Cooldown Reduction does not work for any follower skill except the Templar’s Heal.
  6. Followers never deal significant damage; you’re on your own to clear the content.

T16 Enchantress

GR Pushing Scoundrel

T16 Enchantress

For T16 we recommend this Enchantress setup because she is the only follower that gives Cooldown Reduction, allowing you to spam your abilities more. Since this is T16 content, she’ll stay alive with Esoteric Alteration and Mutilation Guard and use Hand of the Prophet to gain all skills. This will give us Cooldown Reduction, Elemental Damage, Reduced Damage from Ranged Attacks, Armor, Attack Speed, and a Cheat Death.

Stat Priorities:Since we do not have the immortality focus, we need to stack survivability on our Enchantress.

Intelligence > Vitality > Life % > Armor > All Resistance > Life Per Hit > Attack Speed.

Key Items:

  • The Flavor of Time: For double duration on Pylons.
  • Nemesis Bracers: For extra Elites, Death’s Breaths and In-geom procs.
  • Avarice Band: For the insane pickup radius.
  • Ring of Royal Grandeur: To complete our sets.
  • Gloves of Worship: For 10 Minute Shrine Buffs.
  • Sage’s Journey: For double Death’s Breaths.
  • Cain’s Destiny: For 25% more Greater Rift Keystones.


Solo Push

Solo is where the LoD version of WOL Monk really shines and brings a lot more damage to the table for pushing higher content. The style of play and focus of the player should remain the same though.

  1. Cast Epiphany and reactivate it when it's about to run out.
  2. Use Mystic Ally when you are missing 200+ Spirit so you don't waste Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac procs.
  3. Use Cyclone Strike once every 5 seconds to gather up the monsters and to activate your Lefebvre's Soliloquy to stay alive.
  4. If you are fighting more than 10 monsters, use Way of the Hundred Fists Assimilation every 5 seconds for the damage buff. Otherwise only use it before Fire rotation of Convention of Elements.
  5. When the monsters are grouped, attack with Wave of Light during the Fire cycle of Convention of Elements to burn them down. If an Oculus Ring spawns from your follower, jump into with Dashing Strike for 85% increased damage.


The idea here is to fly as fast as possible from elite to elite, dropping a Wave of Light in between each Dashing Strike. If we consistently kill elites and keep our In-geom up, we'll be able to spam our abilities permanently. The best way I know to play this is to hold force stand still and Wave of Light all the time, and tap Dashing Strike. This play style will cause your dash to "interrupt" your constant attacking, which will guarantee you fire a bell the second you land from your dash. The rotation is:

  1. Spam Epiphany and Blinding Flash constantly.
  2. Activate Mantra of Healing once every 3 seconds to maintain the shield which protects your Squirt's Necklace buff.
  3. Hold down Wave of Light and force stand still while tapping Dashing Strike to continuously attack and teleport throughout the rift.


In speed content this build is already immortal as long as you pick up gold from Goldwrap + Boon of the Hoarder + Avarice Band. For solo if the current setup isn't tanky enough you can switch Way of the Hundred Fists to Mantra of Salvation Agility. Nephalem Rifts
T16 Keys

In Nephalem Rifts variant we use the Legacy of Nightmares Set instead of Legacy of Dreams, because there is just no useful rings to equip whereas an extra legendary gem is quite helpful. In-Geom will let us zoom through the rifts at breakneck speed, and the shield from Mantra of Healing will keep our Squirt's Necklace buff safe. We also utilize our standard trio of Goldwrap, Boon of the Hoarder and Avarice Band for a massive toughness boost.

Remember that you need a rhythm between Wave of Light and Dashing Strike. My favorite way to play is to put WoL on my left mouse button, hold it down constantly along with force stand still, and tap my dash. The basic idea of this in plain English is: "I'm always throwing Waves of Light, and I interrupt that with Dashes." This is a bit counter-intuitive as we usually move, and then attack. Here we perpetually attack, and interrupt that with moving. With practice you'll be flying around faster than Neo from the Matrix.

At high Paragon you can use Kyoshiro's Blade instead of Rabid Strike. Rabid Strike deals more damage and covers larger area, but it's less consistent because the clone can get stuck on terrain sometimes and you also can lose Epiphany if you don't find enough elites.

If you are above 3,000 Paragon you can swap Tzo Krin's Gaze for Leoric's Crown to get back teleports from Epiphany. When playing in groups equip Goldwrap and cube Nemesis Bracers, replace Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac with Avarice Band. Also move Squirt's Necklace to the cube and equip The Flavor of Time.


For bounties we will use a similar build to the T16 setup, except we'll remove the gold items Avarice Band, Goldwrap and Boon of the Hoarder. We will carry around items with us that will give us infinite dashes to reach the bounty goals, before swapping over to our damage build to get everything down!

This build is a swap build: you need to carry a few items in your inventory and switch them depending on the situation. You have two main forms. First is the damage form (shown on the planner) with which you can kill monsters like a normal Wave of Light monk. With just two clicks (equipping Fists of Thunder with Cooldown Reduction and Resource Cost Reduction along with Scales of the Dancing Serpent) you can switch to travel form, which lets you cast Dashing Strike as much as you want thanks to the Raiment of a Thousand Storms (4) Bonus. Pride's Fall and The Laws of Seph will help us keep our Spirit up as we cast Blinding Flash. Since you rely on Legacy of Dreams gem, you deal zero damage while in travel form!

Usually you swap to travel form while channeling your teleport and then quickly dash to the quest location. While dashing, make sure to maximize your Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac. Only recast Epiphany when it expires and try to completely avoid using Air Ally. It has much lower Spirit/Cooldown ratio than Blinding Flash and it serves only as your panic button for when you make a mistake and run out of Spirit.

When you arrive, switch to damage form and from there on you need to rely on Epiphany teleports and In-Geom from mobility, because switching back and forth takes too much time. On Kill Bounties it's a good idea to stay in travel mode until you find the first Elite and then chain In-Geom procs from there.

Your single target damage is not amazing, so you can swap some extra items to help with Boss Bounties, since you will be waiting for you teammates to decline the event anyway. The first and the easiest option is switching your helmet to Tzo Krin's Gaze and your In-Geom to Kyoshiro's Blade. It will more than quadruple your damage and also will let you stay far away from the boss so you can keep you Squirt's Necklace buff.

If you need even more damage (for example to kill Queen Araneae in one phase), switch Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac with Molten Wildebeest's Gizzard to Convention of Elements with Bane of the Stricken. The cycle starts on Cold so you will get the damage bonus 4 seconds after equipping the ring. Swap it at the right time and you can absolutely blast the boss into the next dimension!

To make the above two swaps easier, equip your In-Geom in your Main Hand, and your Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac in the left ring slot. Then a simple right click on Kyoshiro's Blade/Convention of Elements in your inventory will swap it with the correct item.

Finally, you have another swap option: any of your weapons to Crystal Fist. This is very useful for Exploration Bounties. Since you lose your damage reduction from Legacy of Dreams, you become quite squishy in your travel form. This weapon fixes that issue and lets you complete Exploration Bounties without ever switching to damage form. Just dash to the objective, channel it ignoring all the mobs guarding it and dash to the next one. Make sure to use your Epiphany strategically so that you are not interrupted. Doing this will easily save you 20+ seconds on each Exploration Bounty, although keep in mind that you need about 350m toughness to pull it off.

At high Paragon you can use Kyoshiro's Blade instead of Rabid Strike. Rabid Strike deals more damage and covers larger area, but it's less consistent because the clone can get stuck on terrain sometimes.

If you want to play this at a lower Paragon you should also swap your helmet to Tzo Krin's Gaze every time you switch to your damage form. This will make your swaps more annoying and also remove Epiphany teleports, but the build can still be very fast if you play it well.

Solo Speeds

In GR Speeds we use all available multipliers: Convention of Elements, Rabid Strike and Bindings of the Lesser Gods plus The Crudest Boots (which buffs the clone's damage). We use Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac to reset cooldowns of Epiphany and Air Ally. Squirt's Necklace is protected by Mantra of Healing and St. Archew's Gage.

Here you need to spam Mantra of Healing to maintain the shield and use Cyclone Strike into Wave of Light to kill everything. Try to Epiphany teleport with Cyclone Strike instead of using Dashing Strike to get more Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac procs into Epiphany and Air Ally. Pay attention to the position of your Rabid Strike clone (shown by a purple dot on the minimap). It likes to get stuck on terrain several screens behind, especially if you teleport a lot. If that happens, you need to stop attacking for couple of seconds to let it reset.

You can use Lightning damage with Pillar of the Ancients rune. In that case you switch Cindercoat to Tyrael's Might. This setup deals about 50% more damage but has much smaller AoE and struggles a lot with Spirit. For that reason it's recommended to have some extra Resource Cost Reduction, ideally on trifecta weapons and shoulders.

For group play, replace Unity with Stone of Jordan and The Guardian's Path with Relentless Assault. You can also keep Cindercoat and Fire Damage rolls even when playing Pillar of the Ancients.

GR Solo Push
Solo Push

Solo push version adds a bunch of damage multipliers: Convention of Elements, Rabid Strike and Bindings of the Lesser Gods (which buffs the clone's damage). We also get an awful lot of toughness from Unity, Lefebvre's Soliloquy and Stone Gauntlets. Finally we solve our Spirit problems with Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac which resets cooldowns of Epiphany and Air Ally. Squirt's Necklace is only useful during the Shield Pylon and vs some easy to dodge Rift Guardians.

To add to what was covered above in the Gameplay section, we need to set things up properly around our Fire Convention of Elements cycle. Make sure to refresh all your buffs right before Fire (cast Cyclone Strike, Dashing Strike and Way of the Hundred Fists x3), so that you can spend all 4 seconds of Fire doing nothing but spamming Wave of Light.

At higher Paragon when toughness is not an issue, change Unity to Stone of Jordan and give Slipka's Letter Opener to your Scoundrel.

You can also play this build with Lightning damage using Pillar of the Ancients rune. In that case you switch Cindercoat to Tyrael's Might. This setup deals about 50% more damage but has much smaller AoE and struggles a lot with Spirit. For that reason it's recommended to have some extra Resource Cost Reduction, ideally on trifecta weapons and shoulders.

GR Group TK
LoD WoL Trash Killer

Trash Killer's (TK) job is to kill trash monsters (and sometimes elites) to bring the progress bar to 100% and spawn the Rift Guardian. In this setup Area Damage is our best damage stat so we stack it as much as possible.

Don't spam Cyclone Strike, you should be tanky enough to survive without Lefebvre's Soliloquy buff so just sit tight and wait for your Lightning cycle. Just before Lightning (but after zBarb makes the pixel), use Cyclone Strike once and start spamming Wave of Light. Your position and where you aim doesn't matter at this point, it's all in the hands of Rabid Strike clone.

If your group needs more toughness, drop Way of the Hundred Fists for Mantra of Salvation Agility.

You can replace Dashing Strike with Serenity Ascension to try and get some Squirt's Necklace stacks. In this case you will have to rely on Epiphany teleports to move around.

You can also play this build with the Explosive Light rune. It deals about 34% less damage but has much bigger AoE giving your clone less opportunity to completely miss the pull.

GR Group RGK

Rift Guardian Killer's (RGK) job is to kill the Rift Guardian at the end of the rift. Compared to the TK variant, we lose most of Area Damage to get Attack Speed, Elite Damage and Resource Cost Reduction. The latter is important to let us play without generator, staying at range 90% of the time to keep the Squirt's Necklace buff.

You need to do little 5 second rotations on this build. Use Cyclone Strike on the boss (teleporting in with Epiphany) and then immediately Dashing Strike out to safety. For the next 4 seconds you have Radiance and Bindings of the Lesser Gods buffs active, so you can just spam Wave of Light. After the buffs expire you need to repeat the entire process. You will do this rotation 4 times during your Convention of Elements cycle. Make sure to do Cyclone Strike + Dashing Strike right before Lightning so that you don't have to waste any time in the middle of it.

You can replace Bane of the Trapped with Zei's Stone of Vengeance. You get up to 12.5% extra damage but you will need to use Dashing Strike at max distance making the build harder to execute and less flexible.

If you don't have the gear with enough RCR and CDR to maintain the ranged playstyle, replace Sweeping Wind and Dashing Strike with Way of the Hundred Fists Blazing Fists and Serenity Ascension. Now you have to play in melee range but you can still get a decent amount of Squirt's Necklace stacks using Serenity and stuns from your zBarb.

  • Sometimes this skill doesn't seem to do any damage. This can happen if a monster is directly in the center of the hit, or if there are wallers blocking the bell's path to the monster. If this happens, re-position yourself and/or break the walls with Bottomless Potion of Kulle-Aid.

Pinto's Pride

  • Applies the slow before the damage is calculated, so we can get value out of Bane of the Trapped.

Tzo Krin's Gaze

  • Changes your Wave of Light to be cast at your mouse cursor instead of on top of you.
  • Disables teleports from Epiphany.

Rabid Strike

  • Epiphany needs to be active to get the clone.
  • The clone is considered a Mystic Ally. It gets buffed by Enforcer, The Crudest Boots and Bindings of the Lesser Gods, but not Mystic Ally damage.
  • Instead of picking a random value between minimum and maximum damage on your weapon the clone always uses average of the two.
  • When dual wielding, the clone alternates between your main hand and off-hand weapons to calculate its damage.


  • Put together the core items and level up the Legacy of Dreams gem.
  • Practice interrupting your Wave of Light with Dashing Strike to move as quickly as possible in speed content as well as working on timing your attacks with your Fire cycle during Solo and Group runs.
  • Fly through the rifts destroying everything in your path!
